Fishing Tackle Shops in the UK - How to Choose the Perfect Rod - Part 2

fishing tackle shops There are numerous factors to consider when buying a fishing rod from one of the many fishing tackle shops in the UK. Here's some information about rod characteristics that you should consider.

Rod action: This term refers to the rod's flexion, that is, the point at which it flexes (fulcrum). A rod's flexion can range from fast to slow. Fast poles bend closer to the tip and are highly sensitive. Virtually every manufacturer has a different standard for determining a rod's action, so it's well to visit several fishing tackle stores that carry a good variety of rods.

Rod power: This term refers to a rod's capacity for handling shock weight and ranges from ultra-light to ultra-heavy. Manufacturers design rods with specific powers for particular fish species. Also, remember that line weight and lure weight are also dependent on rod power. An experienced fishing tackle shop is a good resource when considering what power of rod to purchase.

Guide type: This term refers to the hoops on the rod through which the line passes. A pole with a large number of guides is better at handling larger fish. The type of guides depends on the type of fishing. On some fishing tackle, such as that for spin casting, the rod will have graduated guide sizes, with larger guides near the reel. On other rods, the guides will be the same size all along the length. Local fishing shops are great for giving advice for determining the right type of guides for your rod.

Grip type: This term refers to the mechanics of holding the rod. Grips can be made from wood, plastic or cork. Cork is preferred because it's resistant to temperature, durable and light in weight. There are several types of grip, including trigger grip, pistol grip and shot grip. It's best to visit a fishing tackle store to try out the various types of grips to be sure that the rod is comfortable to hold.
